Planted In Love. Grown In Community.
The Plant Chica is more than a business — it's a love story between a woman, her family, her community, and the plants that have always brought them together. Founded in South Central LA by Sandra Mejia, every leaf, every install, and every relationship we nurture is rooted in that same quiet joy Sandra first felt as a little girl helping her mother pick flowers for church.
The Original Plant Chica
Sandra Mejia is a South Central LA native, daughter of Salvadoran immigrant parents, mother, entrepreneur, and plant lover. Raised in a home where plants symbolized family, faith, and beauty, Sandra has spent her adult life turning that inheritance into a thriving business and a community institution.
After becoming a mother to her son Alem, Sandra began to think seriously about turning her love of plants into something more. Working as a medical assistant and raising a family, she
started The Plant Chica as a side project — a small, passionate pursuit driven by the belief that plants bring people together.

Sandra Mejia may be known as The Plant Chica, but her shop is much more than just her – it’s a family-run business that has grown with the help of her loved ones, a dedicated team, and the incredible community they serve.
Our New Home
Leimert Park has long been the cultural heartbeat of Black Los Angeles — a neighborhood where art, music, food, and community converge. It's no coincidence that The Plant Chica found its home here. Sandra grew up in South Central, and returning to plant roots (literally and figuratively) in Leimert Park feels like coming full circle.

Building The Dream
What began as a passion project quickly grew into something much bigger. Word spread through the community. The wishlist plants — rare, hard-to-find varieties that thrived in warm climates and were rarely sold in stores — became Sandra's signature. She sourced them from the very same places her mother once took her as a child.
